Jamestown Community Children’s Centre, Spalding Swimming Pool and Burra Community Christmas Committee have been announced as the recipients of $10,000 in community grants from EnergyAustralia Hallett.
The power station’s community grants program supports local projects and initiatives that are focused on improving education and social inclusion.
EnergyAustralia’s Hallett Asset Leader, Mike Clee, said his team is excited to be funding three worthy new initiatives.
“13 people work at Hallett, which generates electricity by using natural gas to power its 12 turbine units, providing about five per cent of South Australia’s power needs. Our people love that these grants enable them to support and connect with their community,” said Mike.
Rachel Redden, Preschool Teacher at Jamestown Community Children’s Centre, said the grant will make a big difference to its forest kindy program.
“We’ll put our grant towards employing two additional educators for the forest kindy. The program is focused on nature play and feeds children’s natural need to play, explore and build their own knowledge about the world around them. Additionally, it’ll help us teach them about the importance of taking care of the Ngadjuri land we’re located on,” said Rachel.
EnergyAustralia’s grant to Spalding Swimming Pool will help it put an electronic payment processing system in place. While its grant to the Burra Community Christmas Committee meant it could hire a Farm Barn and popcorn machine for the recent Christmas pageant.
Over the last five years EnergyAustralia’s Hallett power station has provided over $64,000 in community grants and sponsorships.
