EnergyAustralia’s $40 million Waterloo wind farm has received Development Plan Consent, following the Clare and Gilbert Valleys approval of their development application.

This project will see an additional six turbines added to the Waterloo wind farm bringing the site’s generation capacity to approximately 129MW (43 turbines). The additional six turbines will generate enough clean energy to meet the energy needs of a further 10,300 South Australian homes every year.

Senior Manager for Renewables Development, Cameron Garnsworthy, said he was pleased with the positive outcome which he attributed to the extensive level of consultation his team had undertaken with a wide cross section of the community.

“Our plans for Waterloo reflect the views of a wide range of stakeholders, including neighbouring landholders, the local Country Fire Service, the EPA, local infrastructure owners and a number of Government Departments responsible for heritage, aviation and transportation.

“Through our community information days and our Community Liaison Group we’ve also been able to receive feedback from community members on our project as well.

“Generally, we’ve found that most people support the need for wind energy and wind farms once they’ve been able to get detailed answers to their questions and they know the facts.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to provide their opinions and ideas. This input has been invaluable in helping to shape the final design of our wind farm extension,” he said.

While the project will add only six turbines to the existing wind farm, it will still deliver significant local benefits, with 130 jobs created during construction, an estimated $2.3million flowing into local community as well as long term financial commitment to improvements to local roads and other infrastructure planned.

EnergyAustralia will be required to submit detailed construction and operational plans prior to Building Works Consent being granted. Further community consultation is planned.
