As owner of the Mt Piper power station, EnergyAustralia is proud to be part of the Lithgow and surrounding region and is committed to making a positive difference to our local community.

Community Grants Program

EnergyAustralia Mt Piper provides community funding for local initiatives that will deliver sustainable benefits for the Lithgow region.

EnergyAustralia has two priority areas for funding. These are:

  • Education: Funding aimed at promoting education and knowledge acquisition. This may also include programs with a social or environmental focus and organisations which support career or skill development.
  • Social inclusion: Funding aimed at facilitating social inclusion. This is aimed at initiatives that support community cohesion and inclusion for all. It may include such things as men’s sheds, upgrading communal facilities, improving local amenities and supporting vulnerable community members.

EnergyAustralia is proud to announce that in 2019 we will be supporting the following projects through Round 1 of our Community Grant program:

  • Centacare Bathurst: Our grant will provide an additional six cooking classes for families to support them to better their knowledge and confidence in preparing nutritional meals for their families
  • Lithgow Bears Rugby League Club: Grant funding will purchase the equipment needed to establish an Active Kids Sport Program aimed at fostering a passion amongst local kids for sport and fitness. It will also teach them about building respectful relationships and tips on maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our grant will also support the end of season celebration and awards.
  • Lithgow Public School: Our grant will deliver books to 400 students through the Books in Homes program designed to promote literacy. The school library will also receive a refresh of books for continued enjoyment by all students.
  • Lithgow District Car Club: Our grant will provide security fencing at the Lithgow District Car Club to protect the endangered Purple Copper Butterfly. The fence will mean that volunteers can easily manage their boundary and protect the local biodiversity.
  • Zig Zag Railway: Our funding will provide energy efficient electric BBQs at the Zig Zag Railway site and support the official opening of the area at the end of 2019. The BBQs will use 50% less energy than traditional BBQs and support community engagement the funding meaning that use of the picnic area, including the BBQs, will be free to use for all the community.
