What is a Virtual Power Plant?
A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is a network of energy devices, like home batteries and solar panels, that can be drawn from when the grid needs it most. Instead of relying on large power stations, energy comes from individual households – from you and your community.
How does a VPP work?
A VPP stores electricity when there’s plenty of it available (like on sunny days) and releases it back to the grid when demand rises (like at dinner time). This helps support grid stability and ensures renewable energy is put to good use.
Why join a VPP?
By taking part, you’re helping shape a smarter, more resilient energy system – and you’re rewarded for it.
Our VPP energy plans
Join one of our VPP-connected plans and help shape the future of energy.
Our Battery Ease electricity plan connects your home battery to our VPP and rewards you for it.
Not only do you get a competitive feed-in tariff, but you’ll also get bill credits every month for being a part of our VPP, whether we access your battery or not.
We’ll even optimise your battery for you, automatically adjusting when it charges and discharges to try and lower your bills.
By joining our VPP, you may also be eligible for a rebate through the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, which can help lower the cost of installing a battery.
Battery Ease is currently available in New South Wales (NSW).
We also have local community batteries connected to our VPP.
By keeping energy local, these community batteries help lower costs and support a more reliable grid. If you’re in a participating area, you can enjoy great electricity rates with or without solar.
Community Battery Ease is an award-winning energy plan currently available within select postcodes in NSW.

FAQs
Our VPP brings together a range of energy devices. Right now, our VPP is made up of:
Solar PV systems
Home batteries
Electric hot water systems
Community batteries
But this list is only the beginning. As more households adopt smarter, electrified appliances, our VPP will grow. In future, our VPP may include:
Electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid’s (PHEVs)
Air conditioners
Other smart devices.
To join our VPP, you must sign up for one of our VPP-connected plans, such as Battery Ease.
It depends on which energy plan you join.
You need a battery system to join our Battery Ease plan, which will connect your home battery to our VPP.
You won’t need to have solar or a battery to join our Community Battery Ease plan, which connects our community batteries to our VPP.
You can join by signing up to a VPP-connected plan:
Battery Ease - those who have a home battery in NSW can join our VPP.
Community Battery Ease - for customers in eligible suburbs who want access to great electricity rates supported by our community batteries. (Your home doesn’t join the VPP, but our community batteries do.)
