We don't currently offer Type 8 or Type 9 metering

More homes and businesses are adding batteries, EV chargers and other smart energy resources, and metering is evolving alongside them. Type 8 and Type 9 are two of the newer categories that have come out of this shift under the Flexible Trading Arrangement reforms.

We don't currently offer Type 8 or Type 9 metering or retail services. If your property has, or needs, one of these metering arrangements, we won't be able to provide metering or retail services for that site.

What are Type 8 and Type 9 metering?

Type 8 metering

Type 8 is a new metering category that measures specific energy resources sitting behind your main connection point, such as batteries, solar systems, EV charging infrastructure and other flexible energy assets.

Type 8A generally applies to large market customers, while Type 8B applies to small market customers.

Type 9 metering

Type 9 covers connections that were previously unmetered or carry very low loads, such as street lighting, public EV chargers, telecommunications cabinets, traffic lights, CCTV and park lighting.

It was introduced so this kind of electricity use can be measured and settled in the market, just like any other usage.
