A home battery is the kind of investment you want to make the most out of.
One way to do that is by enrolling your battery in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), which is a network of batteries working together to help support the electricity grid. Many VPPs offer rewards for taking part, such as high feed-in tariffs or bill credits.
Now, thanks to the NSW Government’s Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), eligible households in New South Wales can also receive a government rebate when they connect their battery to a VPP – like when you join our Battery Ease electricity plan.
Here’s what you need to know.
What is the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme?
The goal of the PDRS is to help reduce pressure on the grid during peak times (like hot afternoons or early evenings) when demand is high and energy is more expensive.
That’s where a VPP comes in. By drawing on stored energy from connected batteries when it’s needed most, VPPs help reduce peak demand and help support the electricity grid. Through the PDRS, households with solar and a battery are encouraged to join a VPP, helping make the grid more resilient across the state.
You can join our VPP by signing up to the Battery Ease electricity plan, which includes monthly bill credits, a competitive feed-in tariff, and now the potential for a government rebate through the PDRS.
How you can get a rebate for joining our Virtual Power Plant
As part of the PDRS, eligible households with an existing battery can claim a once-off rebate when they join a VPP.
The rebate amount depends on the size of your battery. For example, as of September 2025, a 20 kWh battery could earn you $650 to $750 back in your pocket. The bigger your battery, the higher the rebate – up to 28 kWh battery size.
Your application can be done through MAC Trade Services, a government approved Accredited Certificate Provider. To apply, you’ll need a few documents from us, along with other information about your battery system.
Here’s how it works:
