EnergyAustralia customers should be aware of a new email scam.

Instances of the hoax email seen to date have arrived with the subject heading “Bill Payment Status: UNPAID” and suggest a problem has occurred with a previous bill payment. Recipients of the email are then asked to click a link to update their details.

The link opens a replica of EnergyAustralia’s My Account portal and should not be clicked.

If you have received this email, you can report it to EnergyAustralia by forwarding the email to staysafe@energyaustralia.com.au. Please send the hoax email as an attachment if possible. Don’t forward the hoax email to anyone else.

Once you’ve sent the hoax email to staysafe@energyaustralia.com.au, delete it from your inbox immediately. Then empty your Deleted Items folder.

Scam activity can also be reported to the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502 or a state or territory fair trading authority.

If you have received this email and did click on the link, please contact our customer service centre on 133 466 for assistance to change your My Account password. Customers can also do this by accessing My Account via the EnergyAustralia website.

If at any time you are concerned you have provided credit card or banking details to a potential scammer, please also alert your financial institution.

EnergyAustralia takes scam activity seriously and has reported this latest hoax to the relevant authorities to investigate.
