EnergyAustralia continually works to manage its environmental footprint and strives to improve the environmental performance and maintain the energy efficiency of Yallourn power station and coal mine.
Our environmental performance
Our operational improvement program has led to a reduction of 370,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas by targeting efficiency improvements such as replacing HIP turbines in 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2015.
The installation of improved efficiency turbines, which was completed in 2015, has allowed the plant to produce power for another 100,000 homes without having to burn more coal.
The power station and mine maintains and monitors compliance against the EPA Accredited Licensee conditions. It is also a participant of the Environmental and Resources Efficiency Plan Program (EREP) which focuses on improving operational efficiency and performance.
Discharges to both air and water are strictly managed and monitored to ensure compliance with all of our EPA Licence requirements.
Bushfire mitigation plan
As part of our commitment to protect the local environment, the bushfire mitigation plan provides an integrated set of procedures to reduce fire risk to and from all site assets.
The plan includes systems and processes for asset inspection and management, fuel reduction, ignition source containment and fire control.
