Going purple for LGBTI youth

EnergyAustralia last week "purpled up" with a strong show of support for letting the LGBTI youth of Australia know they should be proud of who they are.

As part of the festivities, we drenched ourselves in purple, from clothing, hair, bow ties and even wigs! We had 16 simultaneous events involving bright purple baking, gigantic purple onesies and even a dazzling impromptu rendition of “I am what I am” by one of our employees.

Purple Day morning teas were held where we discussed the value of this occasion – to support Australia’s LGBTI youth community. As part of the celebration, we raised money for the Wear it Purple team with purple donation tins for contributions and wrist bands for sale.

Our role on Wear it Purple Day was additionally an expression of how much we respect and value diversity in all forms.

The Prism Network at EnergyAustralia aims to shine a light on how beautiful, diverse, and multi-faceted we all are. Employees part of this network organise functions to support EnergyAustralia’s inclusive and welcoming culture in relation to LGBTI employees, so that everyone can bring their whole selves to work and have a sense of belonging.

Membership of this group is open to all EnergyAustralia employees, regardless of whether they identify as LGBTI.

From all of us at EnergyAustralia, we’re proud of you and hope you are too.
