EnergyAustralia customers should be aware of a new email scam.

The hoax email outlines that a customer's payment was declined by their bank, and then asks them to click on a link. It then states: "In the absence of confirmation from you within 15 days, we will proceed to cancel your phone line."

Customers should not click on the link.

Instead, customers should delete the email, or report the scam activity to our customer service centre 133 466; the ACCC Infocentre on 1300 302 502 or a state or territory fair trading authority.

EnergyAustralia will never email customers asking for personal or credit card information.

EnergyAustralia takes scam activity seriously and has reported this latest hoax to the relevant authorities to investigate.
