EnergyAustralia’s plans for a new gas-fired power station in the NSW Southern Tablelands region are currently on hold due to reduced electricity demand.
The proposed 700MW gas-fired Marulan Power Station is planned as a peaking plant. It will have fast-start capability and generally operate for short periods of time to meet high demand events or support renewable generation.
EnergyAustralia acquired the Marulan project in March 2011. Since then, the National Electricity Market (NEM) has seen reduced demand for electricity and EnergyAustralia decided to put the Marulan project on hold. We will continue to monitor electricity demand and generation requirements and will review this decision as required.
