No, tariffs will not change when you get a new meter. A new type of electricity rate called ‘flexible pricing’ will be rolled out on a voluntary basis from 1 July 2013. Flexible pricing is explained at the Department of Primary Industries smart meters website.
Older style time-of-use tariffs have been around for some time and customers who already have time-of-rates (for example, off-peak rates for weekends) will continue to receive these rates.
