Port Adelaide SANFL Magpies captain, Steven Summerton, has been awarded the inaugural EnergyAustralia Magpie Fans’ Most Valuable Player for the 2014 season.

Each week, Magpie fans were able to vote for their best on ground, with a $10,000 cash prize being awarded to the player’s nominated South Australian local club.

General Manager – Sales and Marketing, David Hamilton, said that as the joint-partner of the Magpies, EnergyAustralia was proud to support the development of football in South Australia through the MVP program.

“Summerton has had an outstanding 2014 season. He has shown strong leadership, both on the field and off so it’s no surprise he was the fans’ choice for Most Valuable Player,” Mr Hamilton said.

As part of his win, Summerton’s junior club, the North Haven Football Club, will receive $10,000, helping develop the next generation of football players.

In addition to being the fans’ MVP, Summerton won the R.O. Shearman Medal, the best player voted by SANFL coaches in Monday night’s Magarey Medal presentation dinner.

“We are proud to be partnering with Port Adelaide– we are organisations with similar visions, values and cultures,” Mr Hamilton said.

EnergyAustralia is a joint major partner of Port Adelaide Football Club in both the AFL and the SANFL.

As part of the partnership, EnergyAustralia is involved in the club’s Power to End Hunger campaign in partnership with Foodbank South Australia.
