EnergyAustralia, one of the country’s leading energy retailers, today said it had agreed to extend by five years a contract to supply electricity to Newcrest Mining’s Cadia gold mine near Orange in New South Wales.

Managing Director Catherine Tanna said the contract, which now extends to June 2023, was one of the largest energy supply deals ever signed by EnergyAustralia.

“All our customers – large and small – want the same thing: affordable and reliable power supply. We’re very pleased to have agreed a new contract with Newcrest that provides both certainty and lower costs in the medium term,” she said.

Ms Tanna said EnergyAustralia looked forward to working with Newcrest as the company investigates options to construct or contract long-term supplies of renewable energy for the Cadia mine.
