Use of Document Verification Services (DVS) 

EnergyAustralia may use the Australian Government’s Document Verification Service (DVS) to securely confirm your identity by checking your personal information against official records.

Why we collect this information 

We use identity verification to: 

  • Reduce the risk of fraud. 
  • Comply with our legal obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Identity Verification Services Act 2003 (Cth). 
  •  Meet our obligations under a formal DVS Participation Agreement with the Australian Government

What information is collected 

We collect

  • Personal information from your ID (e.g. name, date of birth and other information used to confirm your identity). 
  • The result of the identity match from the DVS.

Your rights

You can:

  • Request access to or correction of your personal information. 
  • Contact us on 133 466 (Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm) AEDT with concerns or complaints about how your personal information is handled.

What if you don’t consent? 

If you do not agree to this verification method, we will be unable to confirm your identity, which affects your ability to complete an application. To sign up without providing consent to identity verification, you can call us on 133 466 (Monday to Friday 8:00am to 7:00pm) AEDT to complete your application over the phone.
