Tallawarra Power Station
Tallawarra Power Station is a state-of-the-art combined cycle, natural gas power station located on the shores of Lake Illawarra in New South Wales.
An efficient, large-scale gas-fired power station
It is one of Australia's most environmentally efficient, large-scale gas-fired power stations.
Before the Tallawarra gas-fired power station commenced operating in January 2009, the site was a 320MW coal-fired power station which operated between 1954 and 1989.
The gas-fired power station’s generation capacity is 435 MW – which is enough power to supply up to 200,000 homes.
We recognise that we have a responsibility to consult with and support the local Illawarra community.
Our Community Liaison Group engages with the community on a regular basis. We also support a large number of community organisations and events through our sponsorship program.

A commitment to sustainable environmental practices
Tallawarra is committed to supporting sustainable environmental practices in both its operational processes and through its participation in the community, including:
Thermally efficient power plants
Tallawarra is one of the most thermally efficient power plants in Australia. The plant is constantly monitored to identify and rectify any potential losses in efficiency.
Tallawarra works closely with Conservation Volunteers Australia to restore Duck Creek, an important riparian corridor. In addition to revegetation, volunteers are also building a new walking track to give the local community better access to this area.
We are also committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, suppliers and the general public.
We conduct our operations in a manner that is consistent with our health, safety and environment policy, to ensure that we are actively preventing injury and illness in our workplace.
