About Tallawarra Lands

The Tallawarra Lands project began in 2005 when EnergyAustralia (formerly TRUenergy) first submitted a proposal to the Wollongong Council to rezone the area.

We purchased the 536 hectare site next to the Tallawarra Power Station in Illawarra, New South Wales, in 2003. Our vision is to rejuvenate the area and create a sustainable plan for Tallawarra Lands.

The benefits

Our vision to rejuvenate the Tallawarra Lands with a balanced mix of zones for employment, residential, recreational and conservation uses will significantly benefit the local Illawarra community.

The proposed development is expected to provide employment and economic opportunities, new residential housing and over 200 hectares of protected environmental reserves.

Community consultation

We’ve been working closely with the local Illawarra community since we first bought the land in 2003. We established a Community  Liaison Group to give us a greater understanding of the community’s opinions, priorities and expectations. This ongoing feedback is vital to the formal planning process.

Project update

Current status

The NSW Planning Commission has approved our Concept Plan for Tallawarra Lands. This important regional project will provide long-term social and economic benefits for both Wollongong and Shellharbour areas.

Development of our Concept Plan has been a complex process and involved many hours of stakeholder consultation. We are grateful to the many groups and individuals that put forward a view on our plans.

Next steps

Evaluation of specific development options for the Tallawarra Lands site is necessary before development can proceed. Being a significant project this process is likely to take time. We will continue to engage with the local community as development options progress.
