Taking care of the people who care about our people.

Community has been vitally important to Yallourn from its very beginnings. Over nearly a century of operations, tens of thousands have contributed to open cut coal mining and electricity generation at Yallourn. And today, EnergyAustralia is a major employer in the Latrobe Valley with around 450 people permanently employed on site, and hundreds more involved in the contractual services that contribute to its success.

We operate on the lands of the Braiakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai nation and we acknowledge them as Traditional Owners, as well as acknowledging their living culture and connection to Country.

Many of our team live in the area, proud to be regarded as locals and contributing to a strong and vibrant community. You may know many of us through our involvement in sporting and community groups, or maybe through the programs we have in place to support our community, like the breakfast clubs and reading programs at nearby primary schools. Our employees are encouraged to make a positive difference in their communities and are provided with two days’ volunteering leave every year.

We also work closely with secondary schools to provide pathways for young people who are interested.

Currently we have 17 apprentices and one trainee working at Yallourn across a range of trades.

We are proud to be part of the Latrobe Valley, and committed to being a good neighbour. We engage with the community in a consultative, transparent and approachable way, and provide community funding for local initiatives that will deliver sustainable benefits. Since 2008, we have contributed over $1.5M to the community through our sponsorship and community grant programs.

Visiting Yallourn

While tours for the general public are no longer available, we do try to accommodate school visits when possible. We are a working industrial site so this can be tricky, but we do our best! For enquiries about school visits, please email meredith.bowden@energyaustralia.com.au

Our last Open Day was in 2016 and was a huge success, with 1,600 people visiting Yallourn to tour the power station and mine. Our next Open Day will be in early 2021 to celebrate 100 years at Yallourn, so stay tuned!

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recognition and engagement at Yallourn

We recognise that Yallourn operations occurs on Aboriginal land and acknowledge the unique and special connection Traditional Owners have with their country. Our Reconciliation Action Plan underpins this recognition and commitment to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation as employees and contractors.
