The Victorian energy affordability credit

What’s happening?

We’ve introduced the Victorian energy affordability credit for eligible Victorian residential electricity customers on the Basic Home energy plan throughout 2018.

Why was the rebate introduced?

We’ve been working with a range of key government stakeholders and consumer groups to do more to help customers on basic standing offer pricing plans, which generally have no or low discounts.

If you’re a concession customer on a Basic Home electricity plan, you’ll receive a 45% rebate credited each quarter on your total electricity bill throughout 2018. On average, this is an overall saving of $720 per year. 

If you’re a non-concession customer on a Basic Home electricity plan and have been on a basic plan for 5 years or more, you’ll receive a 25% rebate credited each quarter on your total electricity bill throughout 2018. On average, this is an overall saving of $440 per year. 

This will appear quarterly as credits on your electricity bills between 1 January and 31 December 2018.

It will apply to all supply and usage charges during this period. You’ll see the message ‘Victorian energy affordability credit’ along with the payment number it relates to, for example ‘Victorian energy affordability credit - Payment 1’. 

No, you don’t need to do anything as it will be automatically applied as a credit to your account. As long as you’re on the Basic Home energy plan, you’ll continue to receive the credit for the remainder of 2018.
