Energy review

NSW Government energy assessment for small business

Understanding and managing your energy usage can benefit your business by reducing operating costs as well as developing sustainable business practices.

The Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water NSW (DECCW) encourages small businesses to conduct energy assessments to evaluate their energy consumption.

The Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program is available to business customers in NSW who spend up to approximately $20,000 in electricity annually or employ up to about 10 staff.

The Program offers:

  • a subsidised energy assessment and action plan
  • 50% of costs for making energy efficiency improvements, up to $5,000 for businesses that use between $5,000-$20,000 a year in electricity, and
  • 50% of costs for making energy efficiency improvements, up to $2,000 for businesses that use less than $5,000 a year in electricity.

For the initial on-site energy assessment, businesses pay only $75 or $150 (depending on the size of their power bill) for the assessment and receive an energy assessment and tailored action plan.

If you implement energy efficiency measures, as recommended in your Action Plan, you will need to do so within six months of the assessment. Remember to keep all of your receipts when you make the improvements to your business, so that you may apply for the NSW Government contribution.
