Electrical Engineering Cadetships

Come back to this website soon as we're in the process of creating a new website for cadetships, which will allow you to view videos and hear more from our cadets.

Our Electrical Engineering Cadetship Program combines full time University study and work experience at EnergyAustralia. Cadetships have a minimum work experience component of eighty (80) weeks over the five year program.

You’ll undertake a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Electrical) specialising in 'power engineering'. Upon completion of the Cadetship, cadets are eligible for appointment as a Professional Engineer with EnergyAustralia.

You’ll need a genuine interest in the field of Electrical Engineering and wish to pursue a career in the industry. The cadetship is awarded not only on academic marks, but a combination of academic results and personal attributes and skills.

POSITIVE ENERGY
Imagine a world with no television, no MP3s, no CDs, no cars, no trains, no planes. A world of isolation. What sort of a world would that be? A world without electrical engineers. Engineers design and build the world in which we live; they solve problems and create solutions to improve our lifestyle. Engineers understand the true power behind what drives a lightning bolt or energises your home. And they control the switch that turns Australia on.

POSITIVELY POSITIONED
One of Australia’s largest energy suppliers, we have over 100 years’ experience under our belt. We take real pride
in looking after our electricity network across Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter. As an EnergyAustralia cadet, your career will be securely grounded. We’ll pay for you to study electrical engineering at uni, give you a weekly wage and you’ll gain valuable hands-on work experience with a team that only wants to see you succeed.

A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE
Making a contribution to society is near the top of most people’s to do lists these days. As an electrical engineer, you’ll provide the community with energy for life. That aside, an electrical engineer experiences broad and challenging career options. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy harnessing the knowledge that you’ve learnt through physics and mathematics and creatively apply it to the real world. Planning, designing, building, constructing, maintaining and managing electrical systems – as an EnergyAustralia cadet, you could do it all. Every day is different.

VALUING WHAT’S POSITIVE
During your work experience, you’ll be at the frontline in meeting the needs of our 1.5 million customers and delivering our $3.7 billion capital works plan to 2010 and beyond. You’ll make a valuable contribution to our customers and be seen as an essential asset. We’ll invest in you and give you the best training. Planning, designing, building, constructing, maintaining and managing electrical systems – as an EnergyAustralia cadet, you could do it all. Every day is different.

THE POSITIVE DETAIL
During the five-year cadetship program, you’ll work at EnergyAustralia for at least 80 weeks. This excellent experience will allow you to put what you’ve learnt into practice and will give you the learning blocks needed to build your leadership, teamwork and communication skills. The 80 weeks are divided as follows: you’ll work with us over a period of 13 weeks in each of your first three years at uni, after which you’ll gain one full year’s work experience during your deferred fourth year. During your year’s work experience, you’ll be given a choice of roles to rotate through. And right from day one, you’ll be treated as a valued member of the team with real
responsibilities. And the best part? We’ll pay you weekly.
You’ll also get annual leave, sick leave and superannuation benefits, and when you’re with us, you’ll work a nine-day fortnight. The only thing we ask is that you undertake a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Electrical) specialising in ‘power engineering’.

POSITIVELY COMMITTED TO YOU
Over the five-year cadetship program, we’ll pay you a very generous total package. This will include a weekly salary, your student contribution (previously knows as HECS), and your compulsory textbooks (subject to conditions). On completion of the cadetship the choice to start full time employment with us is up to you, but you will be eligible for a position as a professional engineer. It’s a win-win situation.

WHERE TO FROM HERE?
The sky, as they say, is the limit. But to give you a taste of what to expect, those on our grad program start on a salary of about $60,000, get a choice of over 50 positions from which to rotate through over two years, and on completion of the program, work as a professional engineer earning around $90,000.

  • Weekly salary and benefits
  • Student contribution (previously HECS) taken care of
  • Real career development
  • Top-notch industrial training and development
  • Supportive environment with a 9-day working fortnight

IS THIS FOR YOU?
If a challenging and diverse career is what you’re after, go after it. We’re guessing if you’re a natural born leader with a strong hold on self-motivation and innovation, that’s exactly what you’ll do. This is your chance to genuinely make a contribution to society. You should have completed HSC Physics and Extension 1 Maths, or the university summer bridging program prior to starting your degree, with a minimum 90UAI in the NSW HSC.
