“I decided to join EnergyAustralia’s Commercial Graduate Program because of the opportunity to work in so many different areas while getting the support and training to kick-start my career.”

Leon Shen
University of Sydney – Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting & Finance

“I chose the EnergyAustralia Commercial Graduate Program because of the flexibility it offers and the valuable insight to different areas of the company that graduates gain through rotations.
Since joining the Program, I’ve completed rotations in Network Regulation and Pricing and Corporate Communications. I have undertaken interesting projects with real responsibilities and worked in fantastic teams that have given me tremendous support and opportunities to learn and develop.
The many development courses and the added guidance of a mentor have further aided my development. Being surrounded by a supportive community of current and past graduates has also made the program even more enjoyable.”

Sharon Sim
University of New South Wales - Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Marketing (Hons) and Business Economics

“I chose the EnergyAustralia Commercial Graduate Program because it provided me with endless opportunities to experience different business roles through its rotational program. This has enabled me to gain a greater scope of how the business operates as well as develop several skill sets. From day one you are delegated with significant responsibility and are set goals to achieve by the end of each rotation.
The program also enables you to plan your career path and the company provides additional support to assist you in making this choice such as providing you with a mentor and further study options. EnergyAustralia has a dedicated and committed workforce that provides a great environment to work in.”

Rebecca Mason
University of Sydney – Bachelor of Economics & Social Sciences with majors in Marketing and Human Resources Management & Industrial Relations

Past Graduates

“The biggest advantage EnergyAustralia’s graduate program has over other graduate programs is the flexibility it offers. Graduates have the opportunity to gain experience in fields that are different to what they studied at university. In the last two years, my rotations have ranged from Network Pricing to Retail Finance and I undertook a wide variety of roles including marketing coordinator, financial analyst, and management accountant.

In all my rotations, I was guided, supported, listened to, and was given tasks that made a real contribution to the business. Even in my very first rotation – Utility Services, I was entrusted to initiate a staff incentive scheme, which was welcomed by senior management and has now been running successfully for two years.

The graduate program not only gave me the opportunity to practise the knowledge gained through academic learning, it also placed stepping stones for my future career path by providing frequent training courses on topics such as management skills and communication skills.”

Victoria Chen
Bachelor of Business (Hons) with majors in Finance & Accounting

“I chose the EnergyAustralia Commercial Graduate Program because I was attracted by the opportunity to rotate across the different divisions of EnergyAustralia. The program and its opportunities have exceeded my expectations – which has confirmed I made the right career move after university.

The rotations have allowed me to develop further technical skills in a variety of roles, including sales forecasting, financial accounting, management accounting, and audit. I’ve also had exposure to the different lines of businesses across EnergyAustralia which has improved my understanding of how EnergyAustralia operates within the energy industry.

As part of the graduate program we also attend regular training and workshops to further develop professional and personal skills, which have proven useful in the workplace. An example of this is the mentoring program – a structured program which matched me with a highly regarded senior manager who has helped me to maximise the rotational opportunities of the graduate program.

The leadership camp also provides great experiences. For me, the highlight of the camp was the laughs we shared after rock climbing for the first time. Being part of a graduate community adds to the fun of working at EnergyAustralia.

I regard this as an effective career development program and would recommend it to those that seek variety in a guided environment that is rich in opportunities.”

Christine Descallar
Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting & Finance

I completed the full five rotations on the graduate program before moving into a permanent role in EnergyAustralia’s Retail Division. My rotations were quite diverse, giving me experience working in very different parts of the company. For example, I worked on energy efficiency initiatives in the Network Division, was involved in EnergyAustralia’s entry into the ACT market in the Retail Division and helped host the 2003 ESI Field Days industry event with EnergyAustralia’s engineering & contracting business.

As a graduate at EnergyAustralia, you are given so many opportunities to get involved, make contacts across the organisation and participate in development activities such as the Grad Project and Development Camp at Kangaroo Valley. It’s a really good way to experience different kinds of roles before you decide where you want to specialise.

Kate Bashford
University of Sydney – Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), majors in Economics and Finance.

“The graduate program was very valuable for my career - during the short two years I developed a network of friends, colleagues and mentors from all divisions, worked on a major project that had a big impact, tried different roles and learnt how to deal with a variety of people.

The program helped me decide on where I wanted to choose for a permanent role. I undertook rotations in areas I was considering for a permanent placement as well as areas that opened up other opportunities I had not considered.

The network I developed whilst on the program helped me tremendously in applying for my permanent placement. I had support from my mentor, the graduate program manager, former managers and past graduates.

Even though I am not a graduate any more, being a graduate alumnus entitles me to a series of workshops that contribute to my career development. And the best thing of all, the relationships and friendships built during the program continue on until today.”

Sylvia Darwin
University of New South Wales – Bachelor of Economics & Master of Commerce, majoring in Accounting

"During my time as a Graduate with EnergyAustralia, I had the opportunity to work in a number of very different areas of the company. My first rotation was in the Compliance & Management Systems Branch, where I was part of a team that managed the roll-out of Business Continuity Plans across all branches and divisions of EnergyAustralia. During this rotation, I was also involved in a number of projects that provided me with a great overview of EnergyAustralia's Operation. My second rotation was in the Energy Pricing Branch of EnergyAustralia's Retail Division. This rotation has given me an insight into the structure of the energy market in Australia as well as the competitive nature of retail electricity and gas market in Australia. I was also fortunate to attend the Graduate Camp with the engineering graduates. It was an action packed week that I enjoyed immensely. The Commercial Graduate Program provides graduates with a wide range of experience and skills and I recommend it to all prospective graduates."
