The Australian Energy Regulator has advised energy retailers of an alleged scam.

Energy consumers have reported receiving unsolicited phone calls from people claiming to work for an energy retailer. These callers are demanding money for an overdue bill and threaten to disconnect power that day if payment is not made.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and contact our customer service centre on 133 466. Our consultants can verify the status of your account and whether you have been legitimately contacted by EnergyAustralia.

The Australian Energy Regulator has reported this scam to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and a radar alert has been issued through ScamWatch.

We encourage you to contact your local police if you believe you may be the victim of fraud.

EnergyAustralia takes scam activity seriously and more information about how we secure your accounts can be found on our website.
