Baringa students welcome funding boost from EA and it's contractors | EnergyAustralia

Baringa Special School have this week welcomed a donation of more than $7000 from EnergyAustralia’s Yallourn Power Station and its contractors – just in time for Christmas.

The donation was generated from the power station’s recent major outage, during which employees and contractors received incentives for meeting agreed safety milestones. The group nominated a range of community organisations to donate these incentives to, and selected Baringa as one of six funding recipients this year. Three local CFA brigades, Moe Youth Gym and Latrobe Regional Hospital will also accept funding by the year’s end.   

Baringa will purchase a range of musical instruments, sporting equipment and computer equipment from local businesses, with the funding.

EnergyAustralia’s Head of Yallourn Mark Pearson praised employees and contractors for their focus on safety during the outage, and for contributing to supplies that make learning even more fun and engaging for young people at Baringa.

“Much like working together with our contractors during times like major outages, we’ve collaborated to help purchase essential equipment from local businesses for these children and teenagers to use in class and the playground,” Mr Pearson said.

“EnergyAustralia and our contractors at Yallourn are proud to contribute to local community organisations like Baringa, which make such an important difference in the lives of these young people in the Latrobe Valley.”

Baringa Special School principal Jenny O’Donnell thanked the group of Latrobe Valley businesses and EnergyAustralia for boosting school supplies to benefit her students.

“The students are thrilled to be getting some shiny, new equipment to use during their classes and break times,” Ms O’Donnell said.

“Music and physical activity are important elements of the school curriculum because they keep our students engaged by adding fun and variety.    

“We greatly appreciate community contributions like this from EnergyAustralia and its contractors because it enhances our ability to offer better educational experiences for our students.”
