Supply characteristics

A perfect power supply is not always possible

EnergyAustralia's objective is to maintain a highly reliable electricity network, however it is not practicable to provide a continuous and perfect network through which electricity can be supplied.

It is inevitable that from time to time you may experience a temporary power fluctuation or interruption. Reasons for this include planned or emergency maintenance work, unforseen failure of equipment, or damage to the network caused by trees or storms.

System usage by other customers, or your own equipment can also cause fluctuations in the characteristics of electricity supplied by your retailer through the EnergyAustralia network. EnergyAustralia endeavours to minimise interruptions, and where they occur, limit their impact on homes and businesses.

More information on the impact EnergyAustralia’s electricity network has on characteristics of the electricity supplied by your retailer through the EnergyAustralia electricity network can be found in Electricity Network Operation Standard (ENOS - formerly ES2). This document can be found in our electrical supply standards webpage.

The Energy Networks Association (ENA) has also released a Customer Guide to Electricity Supply which provides information on how electricity is supplied and the quality and reliability of electricity supply that can be expected from an electricity network. It provides comprehensive information that will assist you to understand the causes of supply variability, the risks to particular equipment and available protective measures.
